Building a City
The Images below show a portion of the the big city
under construction about the beginning of June '06. The roadway
system is made of blue foam insulation board tiles measuring 1'x1',
1'x2', and 2'x2'. Buildings are constructed from styrene sheet
with Holgate & Reynolds or Plastruct pattern sheet glued to
the exterior.
The image above shows about hlaf of the city grid with
a few 28mm figs and approximately 1/43 scale cars to give a sense
of scale.
A view of some of the smaller buildings; (L to R) the
offices from a warehouse, the Wheel restaurant, the Dairy Doodle
ice cream stand, and Antenucci's grocery.
This view shows the second floor rooms of the bank
and library. the roof and upper floors of each building will lift
out to allow access to lower floors. The white plastic vehicle
is my near future police Grav car in progress.
A street level view of the library. The side walks
are strips of .06 styrene plastic with the concrete panels or
sections scribed into them. They simply lay on the gray road tiles
and "capture: the buildings. The city is deigned with each
block having either a 1'x2' or 2'x2' footprint. Breaks in the
sidewalks permit access to alleys on the 2'x2' blocks. The sidewalk
sections can be taped to one another on the bottom to reduce movement
and help the capturing of the buildings.
An overhead view with second floors removed. At this
time, the ice cream stand is done, and Lena's Confectionary (the
small building above) is receiving paint.
